Dosage information

Diagnosis and treatment of primary hyperaldosteronism
If it takes a long time to perform the test, administer 400 mg/day for 3-4 weeks.
If it takes a short time to perform the test, administer 400 mg/day for 4 days.

Edematous conditions
– Cardiac edema
Adults: 50-100 mg/day in single or divided doses.
– Edema caused by cirrhosis of the liver with or without ascites
Adults: 300-600 mg/day.
– Edema caused by nephrotic syndrome
Usually 100-200 mg/day.

Essential hypertension
Adults: initial dose 25 mg/day then increase to 100 mg/day in single or two divided doses. Dosage should be adjusted to blood pressure and potassium serum level.

Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established


Spironolactone is indicated in the management of:
 Primary hyperaldosteronism
For diagnostic and treatment of primary hyperaldosteronism.
 Edematous conditions for patients with:
– Congestive heart failure
– Cirrhosis of the liver accompanied by edema and/or ascites
– Nephrotic syndrome.
 Essential hypertension.
